Goodall Media was contracted as official event photographer for the Automotive Center of Excellence (ACE) Grand Opening and we were also contracted to shoot the promotional marketing material for ACE and the University. This is some of the behind the scenes video from those two shoots.

The ACE is a university-owned and operated testing and research facility with a working area of approximately 16,300 square metres
ACE is the first automotive research, development and innovation centre of its kind in Canada, and in many respects, the world. The climatic wind tunnel has a variable nozzel and a large yawing chassis dynamomter that can, for the first time anywhere, test properties in cross winds.

UA Local 463 Central Canada Apprenticeship Competition 2011

The UA Canada National and Regional Apprenticeship Competitions are held every June in many different locations across the country. Next year the national competition will be hosted at Local 46 in Toronto ON. The Western Region will be at Local 179 in their Saskatoon SK training center. The Central Regional event will be at Local 552 in Windsor ON, and the Eastern Regional event will be at Local 324 in Miramichi NB. -UA Canada website-

Playing in the Dark

I love going for walks at night with my camera and tripod to see what kind of creativity i can unleash. Shooting at night really allows you to understand what your camera is doing when it is capturing an image. The first two shots are from a roof top shoot in Toronto, the next 3 are from Nuit Blanche in 2010, and the last 3 are from a night shoot in Newcastle by a set of train tracks.

I was on my way to meet up with a friend when I saw this storm roll in… Luckily I had ALL of my camera gear with me as I was coming back from working with Ian. My Camera and I got wet but I think you will agree the Photos were worth it !

Dan Garrity

My name is Dan Garrity and here is my story. While attending Lakehead University for Psychology and Education I discovered my passion for photography. I honed my skills by shooting the beautiful scenery in and around campus as well as all varsity events I could attend. After graduating I changed my career focus and enrolled at Durham College for Multimedia Art & Design. This is where I rounded out my skill set by learning principles of layout and design, web development, animation, photography and video/audio production. I have now teamed up with Ian Goodall to create Goodall Media Inc in hopes of breaking into the corporate media industry.

This will be my forum to share my passions, aspirations and even some of my personal work which is usually done for fun when I can find time…

Automobile Centre of Excellence (ACE) Rain Testing at UOIT

I am often asked what is the most interesting thing I have ever photographed. All of my assignments I find exciting in various ways but without a doubt it has to be ACE, the $100 million state-of-the-art wind tunnel facility at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in Oshawa.
We have previously photographed the facility during testing of vehicles being subjected to -27 degrees with snow blowing in our faces, and 15 minutes later shooting in a room testing desert conditions of +40 degrees.
For this latest shoot we were asked to photograph an electric powered bus in the rain, which was the very first time this simulation was tested. Seeing as the temperature can be precisely controlled simple rain just wasn’t enough. Let’s make freezing rain! Let’s also add some wind, say, 50 mph!
After a couple of hours standing in freezing rain and wind, I was frozen to the core. A technician checked my fingers with a thermal scanner and even though I wore gloves, the reading was -4 degrees. Okay, time to put down the camera when you can’t feel your fingertips.
I can actually say that I photographed a bus traveling straight towards me at 50mph while standing only 2 feet away. I really do have the greatest job!

Allstate All-Canadian Mentorship Cup

Canada’s best bantam hockey players recently played in the Mentorship Cup game as part of the Allstate All-Canadians Mentorship Camp with the teams coached by NHLPA members Luke Schenn and Jason Spezza. We were proudly chosen to be the official photographers for the game!
The players were not the only ones to get a workout in preparing for this game. To create the same style of lighting as an NHL rink we had to install our strobes directly over the ice surface with the help of a lift truck. 8 strobes, 750 feet of extension cords, 500 feet of sync cord and 8 hours later, we were all set. A special thanks to Hugh, my chauffer/lift operator for his help in installing and tearing down our strobe system.

As for the game itself, what a treat to photograph. An All-Star game with hitting!

I have been the face of Ian Goodall Photography for many wonderful years, having now grown into being one of the most recognized names for photography in the GTA.
So, where to go from here? Why not grow some more! Goodall Media Inc. was born from the new requirements in this fast changing digital age. Commercial clients now require more than just still images.
